Website Focus: Book Crossing

So you’ve finished a book. Great! Now comes the question: what do you do with it? If you borrowed it from a friend or library, hopefully you return it. If you bought it, though, the question remains: keep, give to a friend, sell, donate? Well, if you like spreading your book addiction, consider going to bookcrossing.com.

Here’s what you do:

1.     Register your book. This is free and easy. The book will get an identification code.
2.     Print out a label and put it on the book. This label has the book’s code and instructions for the next person.
3.     Leave the book somewhere. You can give it to someone you know if you prefer (friend, family member, co-worker, etc.), though a lot of people have more fun with what’s called a “wild release,” which means leaving your book in a public place for a stranger to find - park, restaurant, train station, coffee shop, wherever.
4.     Track your book on bookcrossing.com. Your work is done. The next steps are for other people: finding the book, reading the book, adding their own comments on the website, and releasing it again. Still you can have fun checking in with your book’s identification code and seeing where the book travels and what other people thought.

Have fun!
